Veggies that Grow in Water
If you’re wondering what you can grow in a bowl or glass of water, this is the list for you!
Celery – These are the easiest to grow! Just cut off the top leaving 3-4 inches at the bottom. I like to stick 3 toothpicks around the celery and place in a bowl of water making sure it touches it. Watch it grow from the middle upwards!
Lettuce – Cut the top lettuce off and leave 2-3 inches of the core at the bottom. Place in a bowl of water and watch it grow!
Bok Choy– Cut the top off similar to celery and stick in a glass of water. Change water every 2-3 days.
Leeks– Cut the top off and submerge the roots 1-2 inches in water. Place in a sunny windowsill and watch it grow from the middle in about a week!
Green Onions – Never, ever buy green onions again at the store! Okay, maybe the first time. Just get a mason jar or cup, put the green onion inside and fill a few inches of water above the white part. It will start growing roots and upwards very fast. Once it has a good root system, I stick them in a pot of dirt and they just thrive! I’ve used the same 3 green onions for months just make sure to trim them when they get too tall and are falling over.
Cabbage– Cut the top off of the cabbage and put the bottom roots into a bowl of water. Change water every 2-3 days.
Carrot Greens– Cut the carrot off leaving a flat bottom. Place the orange carrot bottom into a bowl of water. Watch the greens grow upwards.
Spinach– If you buy spinach with roots attached from the store, just put in a glass of water. Transfer to dirt when it grows.
