7 Layer Salad (My Way)
We all love a good 7 layer salad every now and then right? Fill it with veggies, a bit of bacon for crunch and mayo to bring it all together. Well, with many of my recipes, I have MY way of doing things. Come join me in my kitchen as I whip this baby up in just minutes!
There’s nothing better than comfort food straight out of the Ssouth. When I think of comfort food, I think of sweet tea, corn bread, crispy fried chicken, magical mashed Potatoes, deviled eggs, baked beans and mac n cheese. Now, I know some of you are going to say collard greens, but, I have never had collards greens, never seen collard greens and surely never made them before. The same goes for grits.
We live in Cincinnati, folks, not the South, so please don’t judge!
So I decided to have a Sunday Dinner {<– Find out what Sunday Dinner is!} focused on southern comfort foods. I didn’t have the time to make crispy fried chicken so we headed to a local chicken joint down the road, Walt’s Hitching Post, and grabbed a bucket of chicken. While J ran down the road, I boiled eggs. Once they were removed, I added my potatoes to the same water for my Mashed Potatoes. I was running super low on time (and pots) so I had Jason grab some Tradewinds Green Tea withHoney to serve at the Sunday Dinner. I also heated up some baked beans in my and got out my Trifle Bowl as well and got started on the 7 Layer Salad with the girls.
Now, in the South, I don’t think of peas, I think of corn. So my take on the 7 Layer Salad goes like this:
7. Lettuce
6. Red Onions
5. Bacon
4. Diced Roma Tomatoes
3. Corn
2. Homemade Ranch Dressing
1. CHEESE!
Then I top it with green onions to make the presentation a little more enjoyable. Don’t you just love eating the colors of the rainbow?!?

I ended up having the Green Tea with Honey from Tradewinds. I must say it’s my new favorite. It’s not as sweet as the traditional Sweet Tea from Tradewinds and I have been trying to avoid sugars so the honey is something I’ve come to LOVE. It was the perfect addition to our Southern Comfort Food Feast!
