Chocolate Crazy Cake
This chocolate crazy cake is also called the Depression cake because there is no eggs used in it!
What ingredients do I need to make a depression cake?
- All-purpose flour
- Granulated sugar
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Baking soda
- Salt
- White vinegar
- Vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil
- Water
- Chocolate frosting
- Leftover cake can be kept in the refrigerator for up to five days or frozen for up to three months.
- I used store-bought chocolate frosting, but homemade is a great choice. Or dust the cake with powdered sugar.

- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water

- Make a large well in the center of the mixture and two small wells next to the large well. This is to keep the wet ingredients separate until all mixed together.

- Pour the water into the mixing bowl and immediately stir to combine all of the ingredients together.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cake completely to room temperature then frost with the frosting of your choice.
