Variations to Macaroni Salad
As with all of my recipes, I like to include at least a few ways for you to change the recipe to your tastes. While this recipe is absolutely perfect as is, you can:
- Eliminate the cheese– You can take the cheese out or you can use a different type of cheese.
- Hard Boiled Egg– Sometimes, I see macaroni salad with hard boiled egg diced in with it.
Ingredients for Simple Macaroni Salad

- Granulated Sugar
- Mustard

How to Make Macaroni Salad
Boil salted water and cook macaroni until al dente, 6-8 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water to cool down the macaroni. If you put in the hot macaroni with the other ingredients, it will melt the cheese.
In a large bowl, mix together the mayo, vinegar, sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Add in onion, celery, bell pepper, and cheese. Stir in macaroni.
Cover and Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, overnight if possible.
