I am in the midst of a Playroom Makeover. However, I decided to do a bit of a hall closet turned mudroom makeover in the entry way.
I’m just going to say it. I had to make a change in my house. I was tired of all the junk, nonsense laying on the floor and nothing seemed to have a place in my home. It was complete and utter chaos. So over this past year I have made HUGE changes in a minimal way to make our home work for us. It all began with this Hall Closet Turned Mudroom Makeover!
I have to share it with you because it costs me under $100 to make sure a big change in how our family functions on a day to day basis!
When you walk into my home there was a closet with two sliding doors behind the front door. It was such a pain in the ass. The kids would play in their, closets would be on the ground, shoes were everywhere but inside the closet, there was WAY to much junk and it just wasn’t organized. I’m a bit OCD so I had finally had enough!
My first step was I removed the doors! At first it was a bit overwhelming…afterall this was my Husband’s childhood home and he sorta freaked a bit! Once the doors were removed I cleaned out the entire closet from top to bottom. If it hadn’t been worn we put it into a bag and it was donated. From there everything ended up with a home!
The next step was to purchase baskets to make it look a bit pretty, however, still function. So the winter hats and gloves were put into the large bin that is on the top shelf. My Husband’s baseball hat collection is also in one of those bins! {I really should get rid of them because he only ever wears two of them!}

I PROMISE I won’t sell your info to those scammer people!
I also purchased a 3 cube storage bench and three different colored bins. I ended up recovering the top of the bench with a red fabric to give the space a bit of color and to liven it up a bit!
This “mudroom” is where we all put on shoes! I will be building a storage bench that will house my blankets {I’m a bit of a blankie hoarder!} and that will also be big enough for a bin to put everyone’s shoes in! I’m sure I’ll have a article for you on that once I get to it so stay tuned 😉
The last piece I bought was a 5 hook coat hook. This comes in handy for all the jackets, book bags and purses.
I was a bit nervous once I made the transition, but, for our family it works SO much better than it ever did before. The entire family takes their shoes off at the front door when we come in, they get put away. They become out of sight, out of mind!
I literally bought all of this on Amazon.com, you can too! It makes my life easier so I’m not distracted when I walk into the store with all 3 kids! Here’s what I bought:
- Wired Wicker Baskets ($20)
- 3 cube storage bench ($60)
- Three different colored bins ($18)
- 5 hook coat hook ($15)
The total for my hall closet turned mudroom makeover was…..
{drum roll please………………………..}
$113!!!!
Now I painted the back of my front door and the walls with leftover paint from my bathroom! However, if you need inexpensive paint head to your local home improvement store and head to their “reject” section. You can find paint colors that didn’t work for the original person who purchased the color and receive a discount on it! I often do that and have it retinted 😉
I hope you realize that it doesn’t take a lot of money to make a big impact and have your home work for you!
I love to see what you are creating in your homes! Be sure to share the recipes you found on MyHeavenlyRecipes.com with me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
