Know a Captain America fan? If you do, you have to make these Captain America Cookies! They make the perfect cookie for a Captain America-themed birthday party or viewing party.
How cute are these Captain America Cookies?! They would be a HUGE hit with any Captain America fan (young or old — let’s be real here, lots of adults love Marvel Comics!). The best part is they look like you spent all day on them, but they’re surprisingly easy to make. In fact, you’re going to “cheat” by picking up several of the ingredients at the store:
- Sugar cookies (you could make these yourself, but I suggest buying them as a time-saver)
- White cake fondant
- Blue cake fondant
You could actually buy the vanilla buttercream too if you really wanted to, although I do have a killer Whipped Buttercream Icing recipe that tastes SO good (and isn’t too difficult to make).
Mostly you’re just going to be spreading melted red candy melts on the tops of your cookies, chilling them, and then using cookie cutters to create your fondant decorations to transform each cookie into the infamous Captain America shield.
Also, kids will love helping with these cookies. They’ll have so much fun using the cookie cutters to make the fondant stars. I think I’m going to have my kids help with these soon because some of our friends are having a Captain America-themed birthday party!
Where to Serve Captain America Cookies
- Birthday parties
- Captain America / Marvel Comics screening or pre-screening parties (Avengers: Infinity War comes out on April 27, so you could make these to celebrate before heading to the theater)
- 4th of July parties (they’re pretty patriotic, so why not?)
Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Captain America Cookies
- 12 pre-made sugar cookies (shape of a large circle, about 3 inches in diameter)
- 2 cups red candy melts
- 2 tsp coconut oil
- Store-bought white cake fondant (about 6-8 oz.)
- Store-bought blue cake fondant (about 3-4 oz.)
- Cornstarch
- 3 circular cookie cutters (2 inch in diameter, 1.5 inch in diameter, and another 0.5 inch in diameter)
- Small star cookie cutter
- Vanilla buttercream
Yields: 12 Captain America Cookies
Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Microwave your candy and coconut oil in 30-second intervals until completely melted. Mix thoroughly.
Using a fork, dip each sugar cookie into the melted candy and set carefully on lined baking sheet. Allow to set in the refrigerator for about one hour.
Dust a clean working surface with cornstarch and start rolling out your fondant. Cut your white fondant with the largest cookie cutter and then using the 1.5 inch cookie cutter, cut a hole in the middle of it.
Using your smallest circular cookie cutter, cut out blue fondant circles. Cut star shapes from the white fondant and use buttercream to “glue” it onto your blue fondant circles.
Once the coated cookies are set, remove them fridge and start assembling. Using your buttercream as the “glue,” place your large white circle, then the blue one (with the star). Enjoy!
