Did you know that you can make a table out of old drawers? If not then come on in! I can’t wait to show you my vision of my crazy “DIY Table Made From Old Drawers!”.
I LOVE to stop at garage sales. It’s like a treasure hunt and something that allows me to be creative in ways that I had never imagined. What others may have seen as two old drawers they instantly had turned into a pretty sweet table as they were sitting in a dusty old garage.
You may recognize this table from – Hall Closet Turned Mudroom.
The price on each drawer was $5 and I ended up paying $8 for the pair…When I shop I ALWAYS receive a discount for buying in bulk – all you gotta do is ask. Chances are the sellers won’t say no because they don’t want to load that shit back up and put it away!
I brought these beauties home and they literally sat in the foyer for probably two months. I said I had a vision in my head, I DID NOT say I’m quick to put them together!
I took a few weeks and shopped around for legs. Dear Baby Jesus I kept talking myself out of this whole projects and then my friend Leanne of DivaofDIY.com mentioned to use wood spindles from a deck….DAMNIT why didn’t I think of that?!?
So it was back to Home Depot I went. I looked at the spindle options and was pleasantly surprised to see that they were under $2 for EACH LEG! I instantly put 4 spindles into my cart with my screaming kid {he was out of suckers!}, grabbed some Minwax stain and headed on home.
I measured an old table that had been in the exact same spot and wanted to the table to be the exact height. I had my hubby cut 6″ off the spindles so that they measured 30″ {that’s good table height ya’ll!}. I will admit that we don’t have the right tools and hence the reason hubby cut them 😉

I ended up flipping the table over and opting out of the shadow box idea. So we drilled two holes and attached the drawers together. Then pre-drilled holes for the legs and attached them. I stood the table up and fell in love with it! My vision had finally came to life ya’ll!
The next step was to stain it. I didn’t want to take away the character of the drawer and didn’t stain them. Instead I stained the legs and ever so gently faded the stain into the drawers.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it turned out! It’s pretty much the vision that I had in my head and so glad that I didn’t go with a bigger leg. I think it would’ve looked to blocky.
The hat on the drawer table is one that was my Husband’s Father. He passed when Jason was 13. I also acquired my favorite piece, the black antique hutch. When we moved we had asked both of Jason’s sisters if they wanted it and they both declined. I was secretly jumping up and down on the inside because it is by far something I have always wanted and LOVED!
If you know anything about this piece please Email Me! I don’t know much about it and have done research that hasn’t resulted in much. There are no markings, stampings or anything on the entire piece which kinda saddens me!
Anyhow, that’s my vision for my DIY Drawer Table. I hope that you’ll use this inspiration to create a DIY Drawer Table of your own. I’m not sure that I’m more excited seeing my vision come together or creating a new piece of furniture for under $20!
I love to see what you are creating in your kitchens! Be sure to share the recipes you found on MyHeavenlyRecipes.com with me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

I love the drawer table idea. Your version is nicely inspired. From your photo, it looks like it needs some additional support in the middle…and I would have personally preferred a heavier leg. Keep up the treasure hunt! I love the hutch also!

I love it. Great Job! Improve by adding two legs in the middle. Seems or looks like there is a sag there.
Great way to recycle!

It’s beautiful and very inspirational. I too, agree at least one leg in middle of table.

Another idea that this inspired would be to keep the drawers and build around them for the table. Would be good storage for pens, tablets, keys, etc. I also like the idea of larger legs and legs in the center of such a long table for stability.

Now that is clever! First time seeing that. Thanks.

Love what you did. I just might try it some day. I do like working with wood.
