I have played with many store bought cleaners, have made my own, and have scoured Pinterest on how to clean a stainless steel sink. I was pretty disappointed with all of the results.
Without fail, it was a total mishap on how I ended up coming with the most effective, cheapest and best way yet to clean a stainless steel sink….
Are you ready for it?
How to Clean a Stainless Steel Sink
You only need one simple pantry ingredient to pull off this cleaning hack: BAKING SODA!
Yes, baking soda!
For the best results, follow these simple steps:
- Remove any stuck on food from your sink, rinse and dry completely.
- Sprinkle your sink with baking soda.
- Using a paper towel or wash cloth, scrub the sink. You’ll want to scrub WITH the grain.
- Rinse with water and enjoy your clean stainless steal sink! It’s really that easy ya’ll!
NOTE: If you are using a paper towel or light colored rag, you’ll notice that it will turn brown. This is how you know the sink is being cleaned; it’s removing all the staining. If you notice that parts of your sink look clean while other parts still look brown, clean those brown spots again!

I’ve heard of using Baking Powder before.
It’s great for cleaning so many things or even keeping your fridge smelling good.

I don’t have a stainless sink where I live right now, but I LOVE your flatware basket. Where can I get one?

I know this may sound really strange… when your sink is clean, take a soft cloth with a few drops of baby oil on it and rub down the sink for an incredible shine that will last for a bit. I also use baby oil to polish stainless steel appliances. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.
Marci says
I never have any baby oil Patsy! However, I always have baking soda on hand as I use it daily and buy it in bulk from Sam’s Club!

Hi Jeannie – I believe you could order one on Amazon. When the girls were little I ordered my entire life off of the site!
