Over the past few weeks I’ve gotten about a half dozen emails asking how to cut desserts so they look perfect….
You may have seen the above recipe floating around here…it’s the Hershey Sundae Pie recipe that has taken over the website and it’s pretty damn amazing if I don’t say so myself.
Well friends learning my way around the kitchen hasn’t been easy. I will let you in on a secret. When I have these “random” moments of ideas for recipes as I’m standing in the kitchen not all of them turn out all that well! There’s a recipe once or twice a month that I whip up and it’s good, just not Heavenly good. There’s a difference!
Good means that you can stomach it. The kids probably didn’t eat it and the Husband just ate it so I wouldn’t bitch!
Heavenly Good is OMG everyone cleared their plates and didn’t bitch one single time at dinner…about the food!
So for me to publish a recipe it’s got to be Heavenly Good!
Now with all these recipes I’ve made A LOTTA desserts. It seems that amongst my friends and family….NO ONE likes to bake! Now not only do I cook I’ve learned to bake as well. Honestly, I’m sitting here thinking about which is my favorite and it just depends. Baking takes a lot of precise measurements. If you don’t measure correctly the recipe will end up either to dry or not enough flavoring.
However, I’ve scored a lot of really delicious desserts like these {click on the image and the recipe will open up in another window!}:

Okay you can totally check out all the Desserts I’ve made on your own. This was enough and I’m beginning to look like I’m obese with all this deliciousness!
Now when I have a few seconds before I need to serve a meal I try to make it look pretty. However, I don’t overdue it with all these fancy schmancy napkins and china…ain’t nobody got time for that! My food is REAL and I’m no white table cloth restaurant.
Aight…now that is all out of the way…
Listen and listen closely.
You ready?!?
Alright the secret to how to cut baked goods so that they have a nice clean look is to let your dessert cool all the way if it’s been baked in the oven. The next step is to have a sharp ass knife. The kind of knife that would slice a piece of paper…I’ve always wanted to try that!
Now if you have something that involves dairy…
Have you ever seen the ice cream shop dip the scooper in a bucket of water before they scoop your chocolate chip ice cream? Well it’s pretty similar!
Let’s say a you’ve got a cheesecake, ice cream cake, whatever you will find that it will want to stick to the knife. So the trick here is to heat up your knife. I do this by running hot water from my faucet {if you’ve got kids and/or you do a lot of cooking like myself, you’ve gotta get a Moen Motionsense….you’ll Thank me later!}. Once the knife is hot you need to cut the dessert immediately. If it starts to stick to the knife, run the knife back under the hot water.
Alright now that you know the secret I want to see how your desserts turn out from here on out!Be sure to share your results from recipes on MyHeavenlyRecipes.com with me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
