These biscuits are great for any meal of the day!  With the holidays coming up, a great biscuit recipe can make you very popular at the holiday dinner table.  Who doesn’t love homemade biscuits in place of the bland, store-bought ones?

Easy homemade biscuits are a fantastic dish to keep on hand for breakfast too!  You can top them with butter and honey, use them for biscuits and gravy, or, even slice them up and place some egg, cheese, and bacon inside for a delicious breakfast sandwich.  So many options!

WHY IT WORKS:

  • It’s a fantastic basic recipe to have on hand.
  • Works well as a side dish for a formal dinner,  a base for breakfast and anything in between!
  • They are easy to freeze individually and grab and go for later.
RECIPE VARIATIONS:

  • Create any size biscuit to work perfectly with your meal plans.
COOK’S TIPS:
  • Brush the biscuit tops twice, once before placing them in the oven and again right after they are removed from the oven.
  • Be sure to pull the biscuits out of the oven after 8-10 minutes or once the biscuits are a light golden brown. Baking too long will create dry biscuits.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE EASY HOMEMADE BISCUITS:
  • 2 C All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 TBSP Baking Powder
  • ½ TSP Salt
  • ½ C Shortening
  • ¾ C Milk (or buttermilk)
  • 3 TBSP Butter, melted

 

HOW TO MAKE EASY HOMEMADE BISCUITS

Preheat oven to 450°

In a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cut in shortening with a fork or pastry cutter until you have pea-size pieces.

Slowly stir in milk until incorporated.


On a floured surface toss the dough together until sticky. You aren’t really needing it, just bringing it together.

Punch dough down until it’s ½″ thick evenly to make biscuits.


Using a round biscuit or cookie cutter, cut out biscuits.

Repeat the process until your biscuits have been made. I got 8 biscuits out of my dough using a 3″ biscuit cutter.

Using a pastry or basting brush, top each biscuit with butter. This helps the tops to turn a golden brown.

Place biscuits on baking sheet and place in the oven for 8-10 minutes until biscuits are a light golden brown.


Remove from oven and brush the tops again with butter.

Ingredients
