Now that summer break is upon us I am racking my brain for fun ideas to keep the kids entertained so total chaos doesn’t engulf the household. I find things go better when I wrap a day (or week) around a theme so the kids enjoy anticipating what’s next as we do all kinds of theme-related activities. This helps keep the happy mood rolling and makes planning a little easier (and fun) for me.

If your household is anything like mine, you have a bunch of Minion fanatics running around (including the adults). I was thinking one week this summer it would be fun to watch the Despicable Me and Minions movies and do some related crafts, games, and activities. And, because food is kind of a big deal around here, I will definitely be coming up with some cute themed-food ideas like these no-bake, delicious Minion Oreos that the kids can help me make. Because the only way to make an Oreo more irresistible is by turning it into something as stinking cute as a Minion. (BA-NA-NA!) And while Minions look cute enough for you to eat, you can’t eat them unless you turn them into yummy Minion Oreos!

More reasons to love these Minion Oreos

  • Kids will love helping to make these ALMOST as much as they love eating them. Even little fingers can assist by dropping the cookies into the melted candy and by placing the eyes. Older kiddos can try their hand at drawing on the goggles, too. Both make great fine motor skills exercises that are fun to do at any age!
  • While making these Minion Oreos is already quick and simple, you can make them even faster and with fewer ingredients by replacing the homemade buttercream with store-bought writing icing in a tube. Some days just call for a super easy option.
  • This Minion Oreos recipe makes 12 Minions, however, it’s no problem to amp up the assembly line to make more if you are feeding a crowd, or if you just NEEEEED THEM.
  • Serve these Minion Oreos up at Despicable Me or Minion themed birthday parties, movie nights, or package them up as holiday treats (think “You’re one in a Minion, Valentine!”).

Minion Oreos are almost too cute to eat. Almost. 😉

Step #3: Place eyes in the center of each candy-covered Oreo. You can alternate between placing two eyes or one eye.

Step #4: Using an electric mixer, mix together butter, sugar, and milk. Mix on high until buttercream forms stiff peaks.

Step #5: Add 2 small drops of black gel food coloring to the buttercream and fold until completely colored (it should be grey in shade). Set aside ⅓ of the grey buttercream mixture in a small bowl.

Step #6: Place the rest of your buttercream in a piping bag and carefully frost around each of your Minion’s eyes. These will act as their goggles. Next, frost two straight lines on each side of their eyes.

Step #7: Take the remaining buttercream (ie.: your small bowl that was set aside) and add 2 more small drops of black gel food coloring. Your buttercream should be black or dark grey in shade. Place in a frosting back and frost hair on each of your Minions.
